EDER 679.28 Virti-Cue – Production Task – Project Proposal and Storyboard
Updated proposal: Background: In feedback from our usability testing, users indicated uncertainty regarding labels on some of the frequently used buttons in the application. Users also suggested that we create a tutorial to assist first-time users. To help clarify this uncertainty and to assist first-time users, we plan to create a series of ‘how to tutorials’ that ‘walk users through key processes’ in 2 minutes or less. Users will be able to access the tutorials that we are developing through the help button or on Virti-Cue’s proposed website that will accompany our product. website. For the purpose of our production task, we will focus on an aspect in a key process in the application: creating a new story and adding pictures. Short tutorials we be created for each phase of the application. Process · Research various tutorial formats and the design considerations that support them · Determine a suitable format for our tutorials Develop a mock-up of a tutorial · Create a video tutorial on the key aspect of creating a story and adding pictures · Engage in usability testing to improve the tutorial · Evaluation of the tutorial – we will engage in iterative evaluations done through usability studies - users will be asked to view the tutorial then demonstrate their understanding of the process by performing the particular steps in a mock-up. Possible tutorial format: 1. From the home screen I select the button, “New Story" 2. Begin your story by selecting a title - something that reflects the nature of the social skill I’m trying to develop will help me to easily save and find my story on the cloud. Today I’m going to make a story that shows Billy how to take turns. 3. I’d like to choose an icon for my story, and I can use pictures from my clipart, take a picture, or use one of my existing pictures. I think I’ll take a picture of Billy playing with the toy he’s going to learn how to share. 4. I take the picture, select ‘save and add’, then go on to add more pictures to my social story. 5. More pictures are added in the same way. Let’s try adding another picture. 6. I click ‘Add picture’, ‘Take a picture’, ‘Use picture’, then ‘Save and add’ 7. That’s all for adding pictures … tune into the next Virti-Cue Cues to find out how to add text to your pictures.
How will this look during our proposal on Monday? Do we need to create a mock-up of the tutorial? Or, is it sufficient to explain the process? What are your thoughts? I guess if it says ‘Proposal and Storyboard’ we need to include a ‘Storyboard’ ...
This is fabulous Robin...you are so conscientious and on it! JJ I like the review section on our feedback, which we can certainly cover in the presentation.
I think we do need some sort of mock up regarding the screen layout we propose for our video. Then, we should sketch out a couple of screens using our "cards" idea...I could make a speedy Powerpoint on Sunday??
or, can we get screen shots from the Mockingbird and place them into PPT and just have the arrows for indicating the process...similar to our earlier story talk through. This time it would be to accompany specific directions and actions for the user?
Help...got to think more clearly!

Jeannette, I agree with your second proposal of gathering screen shots from the Mockingbird and placing on Power point, however can we also add voice stating the process or some sort of music in the background while the text is being displayed...
